Rozzi announces $5 million for critical water infrastructure upgrades

READING, Oct. 16 – State Rep. Mark Rozzi today announced today that his Berks County legislative district received $5.34 million in state funding to upgrade local drinking water and wastewater infrastructure.

The funding has been distributed as follows:

Exeter Township: $2.1 million to replace 10 sections of sanitary sewer main totaling 1,815 feet and 18 associated manholes. Exeter Township’s existing wastewater collection system is aging, and infiltration and inflow entering the collection system strain operations at the wastewater treatment plan.

Mount Penn Borough: $3.24 million for a new ground-level concrete storage tank for potable water. This will replace the borough’s current 67-year-old Spook Lane tank, which has reached the end of its life.

“Upgrading our local drinking water and wastewater systems is essential to maintaining strong public health and ensuring reliable services for our communities,” Rozzi said. “The funding allocated to Exeter Township and Mount Penn Borough will address critical infrastructure needs – replacing aging sewer mains and a decades-old water tank – to improve efficiency, prevent system strain, and safeguard access to clean water for residents now and in the future.”

Funding comes from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority. More information on PENNVEST is available by visiting: https://www.pa.gov/en/agencies/pennvest/programs-and-services/funding-programs.html.
