O’Mara announces nearly $83,000 in grants for local emergency responders

(Feb 11, 2022)

SPRINGFIELD, Feb. 11 – State Rep. Jennifer O’Mara, D-Delaware, announced seven area fire and EMS companies have been awarded grants through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner. “It’s always rewarding to see the state prioritize our emergency responders. They show up during times of crisis and help people overcome some of the scariest, darkest moments of their lives,” O’Mara said. “This funding will help them not only effectively do their jobs, but I hope also serve as a thank you for all that they do.” Local grants were awarded as follows: Springfield Fire Co.: $15,000. Broomall Fire Co.: $15,000. Radnor Fire Co. of Wayne: $15,000. Radnor Fire Co. of Wayne (EMS): $8,325. Morton Rutledge Fire Co.: $13,000. Marple Township Ambulance Corps.: 8,325. Villanova Emergency Medical Services: $8,325. The grants can be used for facility upgrades, equipment, debt reduction, training, education and public outreach, recruitment and retention, construction savings accounts, overtime costs associated with backfilling positions while firefighters are attending training (career departments only), and revenue loss due to COVID-19 impacts. “In addition to these grants, we also just passed separate legislation this week to distribute $25 million in American Rescue Plan dollars to emergency services companies throughout the commonwealth,” O’Mara said. O’Mara applauds governor’s proposed 2022-23 state budget

(Feb 08, 2022)

HARRISBURG, Feb. 8 – State Rep. Jennifer O’Mara applauded Gov. Tom Wolf’s proposed 2022-23 state budget, saying it makes important investments in Pennsylvania’s future. “This budget would invest in education at all levels, including funding that would help our students most in need, would raise the minimum wage to ensure hard-working Pennsylvanians can support their families and would increase support for individuals with disabilities and other vulnerable populations,” O’Mara said. “ The governor’s proposal would also invest in programs critical to protecting our environment, while preparing Pennsylvania’s workers and communities for the transition to cleaner energy. This proposal – which doesn’t raise taxes – sets us on the right track as we work to finalize a budget in the coming months.” The proposed budget, announced today, includes $1 million for the Hunger-Free Campus Initiative, a new grant program to fight food insecurity at colleges and universities – which O’Mara has introduced legislation to create . “ Far too many college students in Pennsylvania are food insecure, and the ongoing pandemic has only exacerbated the problem. I’m pleased that the governor recognizes the need to alleviate this burden so that students’ basic needs are met, and they are able to focus on their education,” said O’Mara, D-Delaware. We can cut utility bills and help the planet by setting appliance efficiency standards in Pennsylvania

(Jan 06, 2022)

As we entered the colder winter months, energy costs across Pennsylvania increased for most customers, including some who saw a 50% hike. This is due to the fact that eight Pennsylvanian utility companies, including PPL Electric Utilities, raised the cost of energy for residential and business customers. These increases ranged from around 6% to 50%, depending on where you live and your energy supplier. However, there is a commonsense solution that can help utility customers reduce the pain of price hikes: promoting energy-efficiency policies to ensure Pennsylvania’s businesses and consumers have access to the most energy-efficient appliances on the market. Not only does this help lower energy costs and save consumer dollars, but energy-efficient appliances also help us reduce pollution and protect the planet. There are dozens of product types sold in Pennsylvania and the United States today that fall into this category. By setting appliance efficiency standards in Pennsylvania, we can get rid of the energy hogs and ensure that every time Pennsylvanians buy a new appliance that it uses energy as efficiently as possible. While not the most glamorous of issues, appliance efficiency standards can make a big dent in our utility bill by helping us reduce energy burdens on Pennsylvanian households. That is why we’ve brought together a group of bipartisan legislators to sponsor and introduce House Bill 1185 and Senate Bill 601 , which would set minimum Read more

O’Mara applauds $15K grant awarded to volunteer fire company

(Nov 22, 2021)

BROOMALL, Nov. 22 – State Rep. Jennifer O’Mara, D-Delaware, congratulated Broomall Fire Company for being selected to receive a $15,000 grant to go toward water rescue equipment and training. Funding comes from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and will help the volunteer department purchase dry suits. Dry suits help firefighters respond to standing and swift water rescues, as their typical gear is not suitable for these situations. Funding will also help cover training from a certified water rescue training provider. “As the daughter of a Philadelphia firefighter, ensuring that first responders have all the tools they need to effectively do their jobs and assist people in crisis is one of my top priorities as a legislator,” O’Mara said. “I know this grant will be a huge help to Broomall Fire Company and strengthen their capabilities to respond to people impacted by flooding. This will be especially beneficial to residents who live along Darby Creek and need emergency services after a major storm.” “Over the past several years Broomall Fire Company has seen a significant rise in calls to rescue people stranded in their cars or homes as a result of rising water during significant weather events. We lack the proper protective equipment to safely execute this type of rescue,” Jim Capuzzi, president of Broomall Fire Co., said. Read more

O’Mara announces $1.44M in grants awarded to Springfield

(Nov 19, 2021)

SPRINGFIELD, Nov. 19 – State Rep. Jennifer O’Mara, D-Delaware, today announced that Springfield Township received two grants totaling $1.44 million from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development that will go toward construction expenses for a mixed-use development and watershed restoration. One grant for $1.36 million will help cover costs associated with creating the main access driveway for The Estates at Coventry Woods at the intersection of State and Weymouth Roads. This roadway will feature two exit lanes, left turn lane and a two-phase traffic signal. This project will also widen State Road to install turning lanes into the development, provide a traffic adaptive signal system along State Road from North Rolling Road and Meetinghouse Lane, and improve the dilapidated bus shelter by the proposed access driveway. “While the Estates at Coventry Woods will help bolster our local economy, I’m mainly excited to see this funding finally deliver the repairs that State Road has needed for years,” O’Mara said. “It’s rewarding to have these state dollars working for Delaware County and helping improve our community’s infrastructure.” The second grant worth $75,000 will benefit Crum Creek watershed. Funding will go toward restoration efforts of Whiskey Run, including clearing and grubbing, erosion and sediment control, ground stabilization, Read more

O’Mara invites area servicemembers to Veterans Day breakfast Thursday

(Nov 09, 2021)

MEDIA, Nov. 9 – To show her thanks this Veterans Day, state Rep. Jennifer O’Mara will host her annual Veterans Day breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11 at Paxon Hollow Country Club. Veterans may bring a plus one to this free event. Lamb served as an active-duty Marine from 2009-2013 and went on to serve as a major in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. “Since last year’s Veterans Day breakfast had to be a grab-and-go event due to the pandemic, I think this year’s will be extra special, especially with Congressman Lamb speaking,” O’Mara said. “This is one of my favorite events of the year, and I’m excited to connect with Delco’s servicemembers in-person once again.” Questions may be directed to O’Mara’s office by calling 610-544-9878. (Nov 08, 2021)

MARPLE, Nov. 8 – State Rep. Jennifer O’Mara, D-Delaware, applauds Marple Public Library for securing a $25,000 grant to go toward heightening the facility’s security. Funding comes from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and will be used to purchase and install surveillance/security monitoring equipment. “Library patrons range from elementary school students coming in for tutoring to seniors searching through the stacks, and it’s a place where everyone should feel safe,” O’Mara said. “I’m grateful that this funding has been awarded to the Marple library and will go toward bettering an establishment that’s dedicated to both learning and community building.” “Marple library is grateful for Representative O'Mara, her staff and Marple Township's assistance toward the installation of a new surveillance system. O’Mara, Guzman and Rozzi release statements on Berks County’s mail-in ballot error

(Oct 22, 2021)

READING, Oct. 22 — State Reps. Jennifer O’Mara, Manny Guzman and Mark Rozzi denounced Berks County commissioners’ colossal error disenfranchising Spanish speaking voters by providing the wrong return-by date on mail-in ballots with following statements: “The people deserve answers. I am demanding an immediate full investigation into how this massive error could have happened – you don’t slip a finger and type ’18’ when you mean to type ‘2.’ And, if this is more than an accident, we need to demand resignations. For my part I am working with state Democratic leadership to convene a Policy Committee hearing in Reading to get the facts we all need to restore public trust. The actions of right-wing extremists in Harrisburg and Washington D.C. show us how fragile our democracy truly is – we cannot afford to shatter democracy in Berks County,” Guzman said. “Voting is one of our most sacred rights in America, and if people are being told wrong information regarding elections – that’s voter suppression. This cannot be remedied by simply mailing a letter, the county commissioners need to be more open and proactive about correcting their mistake to ensure that every voice is heard on Election Day. The county commissioners’ failure to share accurate information is nothing but a veiled attempt at voter suppression, and Rep. Guzman and I will continue shedding light on this issue Read more
