Miller announces Smith Road pedestrian bridge project receives $225,000

HARRISBURG, Feb. 25 – State Rep. Dan Miller, and Sen. Nick Pisciottano, both D-Allegheny, announced that $225,000 has been awarded to Castle Shannon.

The state grant funding will be used to renovate the Smith Road pedestrian bridge in the borough.

“This pedestrian bridge has been closed since last June due to safety concerns,” Miller said. “This funding will help address those concerns so folks again have access to both sides of the tracks from Smith Road.”

“By investing in transportation, we are not just improving roads and bridges, we are investing in the future of our communities,” Pisciottano said. “I will continue to work with state and local officials to secure more resources to support these types of essential projects.”

The Multimodal Transportation Fund grants, which come from the Department of Community and Economic Development, may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority approved the grants Monday. The authority was established in 2004 as an independent agency of DCED to administer Pennsylvania’s economic development programs.
