McClinton touts nearly $1 million in state funding for Delaware County projects

HARRISBURG, Dec. 19 – State House Speaker Joanna McClinton, D-Phila./Delaware, announced that four projects in Delaware County have been selected to receive state grants. Three of the projects are in Darby, and one is in Yeadon, with the initiatives collectively receiving nearly $1 million in state funding.

“I’m proud to have helped leaders in Darby and Yeadon secure state funding for projects that will improve the Darby Rec Center, Yeadon Community Park, and support the Darby Police Department,” McClinton said. “These initiatives will have a positive impact on residents in both communities. Connecting local projects with state resources is a key part of my job, and delivering funding that enhances the quality of life for my neighbors benefits everyone.”

Darby will receive $200,000 to renovate the Darby Rec Center, a facility used by community members of all ages. The project will include replacing the HVAC system, demolishing and refurbishing two restrooms, refinishing the gym floor, and replacing the vestibule and kitchen floors in the nearly 15-year-old building. The state grant will cover the purchase and installation of equipment, as well as construction and engineering costs.

The Darby Police Department will receive two grants totaling $665,688. The first grant, worth $266,000, will fund the acquisition of two drones to assist with police operations, including locating missing persons. The state funds will cover the purchase of equipment and vehicle upfitting costs.

The second police grant, totaling $400,000, will be used to install pole-mounted security cameras along the business corridor and main traffic areas to deter crime and enhance community safety. The funds will cover the purchase of 35 security cameras, six TV monitors, and a mobile security camera trailer that can be moved to areas where it is most needed.

Yeadon will receive $125,000 to support Phase 2 improvements to the Yeadon Community Park.

All four awards are being distributed by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which manages state funding for projects that benefit communities across Pennsylvania. The Darby grants fall under CFA’s Local Share Account program, which is funded by the state’s gaming revenues. Yeadon’s grant is being awarded through CFA’s Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program, which uses gas well impact fees.
