HARRISBURG, Feb. 3 – State House Speaker Joanna McClinton, D-Phila./Delaware, said she is celebrating two Delaware County revitalization projects selected for state grants to make community improvements in Yeadon and Darby.
“I was proud to help these community projects apply for state grants because they will make our communities cleaner, safer and more inviting for families, workers and visitors,” McClinton said. “Connecting local projects with state funds is an important part of my job and delivering dollars for projects that improve the quality of life for my neighbors benefits everyone.”
The Providence Road Storm Sewer Improvement Project in Yeadon is set to receive $150,000 to make stormwater infrastructure improvements in an area that often floods during storms. The project will also prevent an estimated 21,500 pounds of sediment from being discharged into the Darby Creek every year.
The Delaware County Planning Department is receiving $170,000 to design the Lower Darby Loop Trail, which is in Middletown Township. Eventually the trail will connect Darby’s SEPTA Transportation Center with Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital.
Both awards were provided through the Commonwealth Financing Authority using gas well impact fees.
The Yeadon project will receive funding from CFA’s Watershed Restoration Protection Program which aims to restore waterways from polluted runoff and ultimately remove these streams from the Department of Environmental Protection’s Impaired Waters list.
The Darby Trail award was from CFA’s Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program, which supports projects to plan, acquire, develop, rehabilitate and repair greenways, recreational trails, open space, parks and beautification projects.
