Democratic Leader McClinton on Tuesday's Supreme Court decision on the presidential election

House Democratic Leader Joanna McClinton, D-Phila./Delaware, issued the following statement on Tuesday’s U.S. Supreme Court decision unanimously denying a Republican effort to overturn the results of Pennsylvania’s vote in the 2020 presidential election.

“On Tuesday the United States Supreme Court refused to consider a desperate and legally unsupportable attempt by a group of disgruntled Pennsylvania Republicans seeking to have the highest court in the land overturn the presidential election result. This was a frontal assault on our democracy and on millions of people who voted in this election. The court, acting unanimously, made the correct decision not to entertain this foolishness.

“The presidential election is over. It was conducted fairly and the result is final. Six weeks from today President-elect Joe Biden will be sworn in.

“At no point in the last month have Republicans brought forward any real evidence of election fraud because it simply doesn’t exist. This election result has been properly certified and the outcome is confirmed. Pennsylvania’s 20 electors will carry out their duty next week to cast Pennsylvania’s votes for President-elect Joe Biden.

“Our state and nation have important business at hand. Matters of life and death. The COVID-19 emergency is stretching our health care system to the breaking point and putting our economy and workers at risk of even worse dislocation. This is what we need to be standing together to focus on right now. Helping workers and businesses make it to the vaccine. Giving our students the tools to catch up to make 2020 a footnote in a lifetime of success. Making sure people can afford to see a doctor when they get sick. People making sacrifices to battle the virus want to know their elected officials are working on what matters – let’s give them the results they deserve.”
