Free Air Conditioning Units and Fans Available to LIHEAP Participants

The Energy Coordination Agency is working with the state to distribute free air conditioning units and fans or coordinate free cooling system repairs for income-eligible Philadelphians. This program reallocates unused federal LIHEAP funds given to the state and therefore has strict eligibility requirements. Philadelphians must either:

  • Already be receiving weatherization assistance, or
  • Have received a LIHEAP grant this past winter

To apply for a free A/C unit or system repair with ECA, please send your appeal letter and/or the LIHEAP acknowledgement letter of their enrollment in the program to liheapcooling@ecasys.org.

Emergency Funds for Older Philadelphians

The Philadelphia Corporation for Aging Emergency Fund for Older Philadelphians helps to meet basic human needs for those who have exhausted all other resources. If you or someone you know is over 60, lives in Philadelphia and has exhausted all other resources, please contact my office at 215-748-6712 for a referral!

This year, Pennsylvania is introducing SUNbucks, a new grocery benefits program that provides households with a one-time payment of $120 for each eligible child to buy food while school is out. Children who applied and were approved for free/reduced-price school meals or who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits are automatically eligible for SUN bucks. Those who are not a part of these programs can still apply. For more information visit pa.gov.
