On November 7, Philadelphia voters will decide who will be our next mayor, who will serve on Philadelphia City Council and picking judges for many of the state’s courts. While this isn’t a presidential election, it’s just as important because the outcomes of this election will impact our neighbors all over the Commonwealth!

This week in Harrisburg

Thank you to the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition!

Thank you to the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition for presenting me with a Pink Ribbon Award! When Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward told me about Act 1 it was imperative to me that this bipartisan legislation passed. Act 1 eliminates all costs associated with breast MRI/ultrasound and genetic testing/counseling for individuals at high-risk who are insured under Pennsylvania law. Pennsylvania is the first state to pass legislation like this and I’m so grateful I got to be a part of this historic act! Thank you to PBCC president Pat Halpin-Murphy and the staff!

Stopping Scammers and Junking Junk fees!

This week I proudly voted to protect consumers from deceptive practices, scammers who use software to digitally cut lines to buy up huge quantities of the tickets or products and try to resell them at huge markups and junk fees.

It’s about fair play, fair prices, and protecting your wallet from scammers, and I’m proud to stand up for you and everyone in Philadelphia and Delco!

It was a busy week in Harrisburg! We celebrated the launch of the PA Black Maternal Health Caucus to address disturbing trends of Black maternal mortality & morbidity!

We welcomed the PA State Coalition of National Council of Negro Women for their 2nd annual Capitol Day. It was amazing to see my constituents Susan & Crystol Warren representing the Philadelphia chapter of NCNW!

I was joined by Lt. Gov. Austin Davis & my colleagues from the Legislative Black & Latino Caucuses to discuss HB 1410. This legislation that I’ve introduced would  propose an amendment to the state Constitution to do away with the unanimous vote requirement by the Pardon Board for life sentences and for individuals sentenced to death and replace it with a majority vote requirement - 3 out of 5 votes. This is just the start of a long process and doesn’t guarantee sentence commutation, it just gives a 2nd chance to those who deserve it.
