Kulik legislation providing restaurants relief from paying safekeeping fees receives committee vote

HARRISBURG, March 16 – State Rep. Anita Kulik announced today the House Liquor Control Committee unanimously voted out her legislation that would provide restaurants relief from paying safekeeping fees during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The legislation would allow a one-year reprieve from paying liquor license renewal or validation fees for license holders whose businesses are not operational. It was included as an amendment in a larger restaurant relief effort, H.B. 452, which would remove barriers to providing outdoor dining for licensed establishments and would allow more flexibility for off-site catering.

“Restaurants and bars have faced great uncertainty, setbacks and economic losses stemming from the pandemic,” said Kulik, D-Allegheny. “This relief would allow hard-hit businesses time to regroup before having to pay fees associated with keeping a liquor license in safekeeping.”

The legislation now moves to the full House for further consideration.
