Krueger announces additional state funds for Five Points Intersection

HARRISBURG, Aug. 21 - State Rep. Leanne Krueger, D-Delaware, today announced that $305,894 in additional state grant funding is headed to Aston Township to make more traffic safety improvements at the Five Points Intersection.

Aston will use the grant from Pennsylvania’s Multimodal Transportation Fund to make intersection upgrades including traffic signals, ADA ramps, bus shelters, crosswalks and other site improvements to help create multiple safe pedestrian-friendly corridors. This is the second grant awarded to Aston this month for upgrades to Five Points. Krueger announced a $546,218 state grant for new traffic signal equipment on Aug. 1. These two grants, which together total $852,112, will provide most of the funding needed for the estimated $1.1 million project budget.

“The efforts by Aston Township to make this intersection safer for pedestrians and drivers alike cannot be overstated,” Krueger said. “Infrastructure isn’t just highways and bridges, but it’s also making sure people can move around their communities safely whether they are walking or driving. I’m proud to bring back our tax dollars to support local projects and these latest grants are no exception. I am honored to have a role in getting these dollars back to our community.”

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation administers the Multimodal Transportation Fund, which provides financial assistance to municipalities, councils of governments, businesses, economic development organizations, public transportation agencies, and ports and rail freight entities. By improving transportation assets, this program seeks to enhance communities, pedestrian safety and transit revitalization.
