HARRISBURG, Sept. 30 – Today, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives voted to recognize Sept. 29, 2026, as “VFW Day” in Pennsylvania through a resolution introduced by state Rep. Carol Hill-Evans, D-York.
Established Sept. 29, 1899, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, also known as the VFW, is a nonprofit veterans service organization comprised of eligible veterans and military service members from the active, Guard and Reserve forces.
Consisting of more than 1.4 million members, the VFW’s mission is to foster camaraderie among United States veterans of overseas conflicts, serve our veterans, the military and their communities, and advocate on behalf of all veterans.
House Resolution 522 formally recognizes Sept. 29, 2026, as "VFW Day" in Pennsylvania and encourage residents to honor and support the members and veterans of the VFW for their invaluable contributions to our nation and communities.
“The VFW continues to work tirelessly to ensure overseas veterans receive the recognition, care and benefits they deserve,” said Hill-Evans, chair of the House State Government Committee. “They have provided tens of millions of dollars in financial assistance to military families, scholarships and local community service projects; truly honoring their motto, ‘No One Does More For Veterans.’"
Additionally, the VFW helps veterans secure billions of dollars annually in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs disability compensation and pension benefits, ensuring veterans and their families receive the quality care that they have earned.
“As elected officials, we have an opportunity and an obligation to honor the remarkable courage and sacrifice shown by our veterans and those who support them,” said Hill-Evans. “I am proud to stand with my colleagues to do just that.”
