ERIE, Dec. 30 – State Reps. Pat Harkins and Bob Merski, both D-Erie, said they are thrilled to announce the Shapiro administration's approval of the city of Erie's application to participate in the City Revitalization and Improvement Zone program. This significant milestone marks a new era of economic development and revitalization for Erie.
The CRIZ program, designed to spur economic growth and community development, allows certain state and local tax revenues generated by businesses within the designated zone to be reinvested in the area. This approval opens the door for Erie to harness millions of dollars in sustainable funding for various development projects, creating new opportunities for businesses and residents alike.
"Today's announcement is good news for Erie," Merski said. "The CRIZ designation will provide more resources to help transform the city, attract new businesses and create jobs.
“We are grateful to Governor Shapiro and his administration and remain committed to leveraging this program to transform Erie into a vibrant hub of innovation and prosperity.”
Harkins added, "This is a monumental achievement for Erie. The CRIZ program will enable us to revitalize our neighborhoods, improve infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for our residents. We look forward to working with local leaders, businesses and community members to make the most of this incredible opportunity."
The approval of Erie's CRIZ application is the result of a collaborative effort between state and local officials, community leaders and stakeholders.
