Harkins urging residents to donate blood
Cites urgent need, less than one-day supply at blood bank

ERIE, June 1 – State Rep. Pat Harkins, D-Erie, is urging residents to donate blood to the Community Blood Bank, saying the bank has less than a one-day supply available for most blood types.
“Blood donors are needed desperately right now,” Harkins said. “With more people rescheduling elective surgeries, blood drives being postponed and donor turnout low, our local blood bank is facing a critical shortage and asking residents to donate as soon as possible.
“In these difficult and uncertain times when it seems like so much is out of our control, donating blood is the perfect way to do something you know will make a huge difference in someone’s life.”
Harkins said the CBB’s Erie Donor Center, located at 2646 Peach St., is offering extended hours on Tuesday, June 2 and will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The center is also open at the following times:
- 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays.
- 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays.
- 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays.
Donors are asked to please schedule an appointment beforehand by calling 814-456-4206 so that the center can adhere to social distancing guidelines and limit crowds. Donors will be required to wear a facial covering when attending any blood collection location.
All donors will automatically be entered to win a $250 gift card to a home improvement store of their choosing.
