Rep. Curry's Statement on recent federal actions

Today, we pause to honor the lives lost in the tragic plane and military helicopter crash in Washington, D.C. We grieve for the families who are now facing an unimaginable loss, and we hold in our hearts the service members, passengers, flight crew, and loved ones affected by this devastating tragedy. Their sacrifice and humanity will not be forgotten. May we find strength in our shared mourning and unity in our collective commitment to uphold the dignity of every life.

Yet even in grief, we cannot ignore the stark realities before us. Every day we are seeing troubling words and deeds coming from the federal government that could have terrible repercussions in our communities. Rest assured we are doing everything we can to protect your rights. State-level legislation to preserve access to health care, to protect the dignity of all people, and to maintain the “state’s rights” they talk about so much is in the works. Beyond that, my office is here to help connect you to resources at the local and federal levels to get you the answers you need.

Today, as always, we join together as one people. We are not enemies. We will not be divided. This is our commonwealth, our country, our future, and we will defend it with everything we have.

We press on in the spirit of those who came before us, who dared to dream of justice, who bled for equality, and who knew that no power could ever erase the truth: that we ALL belong here, that we deserve to thrive, and that the fight for dignity and freedom is a fight worth waging. So we build a future where every person—regardless of race, creed, nationality, age, gender, sexuality, ability, identity, or status—can live with dignity, security, and the freedom to thrive.
