Curry to host Friday news conference on education funding decision

UPPER DARBY, March 15 – State Rep. Gina H. Curry, D-Delaware, will hold a news conference on the Commonwealth Court’s ruling that the state’s educational funding system is unconstitutional at 10 a.m. Friday, March 17, on the front steps of Penn Wood High School – Green Avenue Campus, 100 Green Ave., Lansdowne.

Curry is celebrating the long overdue victory for underfunded school districts both in the 164th District and across Pennsylvania. She said this landmark decision answers the echoing calls of generations of courageous students and stakeholders who have been heavily invested and dedicated to the WPSD community and to communities across the commonwealth.

“This historic acknowledgement is moving us in the right direction to provide better access and equitable fair funding for all children no matter their ZIP code,” Curry said. “I will continue to work to help our children, families and communities to feel heard and valued in this continued fight for fairness and justice in our public education system.”

She will be joined by members of the William Penn School District, and Community Stakeholders including:

  • Dr. Eric Becoats – William Penn School District Superintendent.
  • Jennifer Hoff – William Penn School District School Board Director.
  • Paul Vandy & Trinity Giddings – William Penn School District Students.
  • Nicole Miller – William Penn School District Kindergarten Teacher.
  • A representative from Teach Plus.
  • A representative from Children’s First.
