Keeping all our students safe

Video

On Wednesday, the House Education Committee met to discuss House Bill 2602, which would establish stricter protocols for cyber schools to report suspected signs of abuse, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and other crises impacting cyber students.

Our state does require cyber schools to do weekly real-time check-ins with cyber students to confirm their wellbeing and engagement. But right now, there is no standardized way for teachers and staff to respond when those checks raise alarms.

Every student deserves safety and access to supportive adults, whether they attend school in person or online.

You can listen to my remarks on this issue above.

Supporting our working families

No one should have to risk their job to take care of a sick family member. This week, I joined my colleague Rep. Jennifer O’Mara to rally around The Family Care Act, a bill that would create a family and medical leave insurance program in Pennsylvania. The House already passed it – now it’s up to the PA Senate to do the same.

Raise the wage!

The House has voted to raise the minimum wage again and again, but the state Senate blocks us every time. My fellow Representatives and I gathered in the Main Rotunda this week to say it again. And we’ll keep pushing for it as budget season goes on.

Roots Picnic Weekend

The Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus headed to the annual Roots Picnic in Philadelphia over Memorial Day Weekend, not only to hear some of the iconic musical guests, but to take part in the PA Literacy Coalition’s Literacy Panel!

The Coalition brought together some of our region’s most influential literacy leaders to talk about children’s literacy and how we can better support our young people. Festival goers could pick up free books, register for library cards, get free haircuts and braids, and more!

It was such a great event centered on family, community, and education. Thank you for having us!

Thank you for visiting Lt. Gov. Austin Davis!

Astra Foods in Upper Darby is the largest employer in our area, and this week, Lt. Gov. Austin Davis stopped by for a tour of their facilities and to hear about their planned expansion. This expansion is set to bring more jobs to our region and grow our economy.

Thank you for visiting and spotlighting this important business in our region!

The World Cup is here!

SEPTA has plans in place to help Word Cup fans navigate the city throughout the 39-day tournament. You can get all the information you need here.

SUN Bucks summer EBT program

Families may be eligible for extra help purchasing groceries this summer through Pennsylvania’s SUN Bucks program. SUN Bucks provides a one-time benefit of $120 per eligible child to help families buy food while school is out for the summer.

Many children are automatically eligible if they receive benefits such as SNAP, TANF, or qualifying Medicaid, or if they qualify for free or reduced-price school meals. Benefits are being issued now, and most eligible families will receive them automatically. Families who are not automatically enrolled may still qualify and can apply online.

The deadline to apply for Summer 2026 benefits is Aug. 31. To learn more about eligibility, check your application status, or apply, visit Pennsylvania's SUN Bucks website or call the SUN Bucks FAQ line at 1-877-762-1575.

2026 Farmer’s Market Vouchers are available!

If you’re 60 or older and live in Delaware County, you may be eligible for $25 in vouchers to use at local farmers’ markets.

Please contact one of the senior centers listed in the graphic above for distribution times and dates.
