Hello Neighbors, Community Members and Friends,
|
|
December is here and it’s already brought us some wet, chilly weather. I wanted to take a moment to remind you that this week, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) application period for 2025–26 finally opened! This program usually opens for applications in November, but it was delayed due to the federal government shutdown earlier this fall.
LIHEAP helps low-income households afford heating utilities during the cold winter months. Whether you rent or own your home, you may be eligible for a grant ranging from $200 to $1,000, depending on your household size, income, and fuel type.
Most importantly, this is a grant and does not have to be repaid.
You can find out more about eligibility requirements and documents you’ll need to apply, or apply online by clicking here. The application is available in English, Spanish, and seven other languages.
As always, if you need help submitting your application or understanding eligibility requirements, please contact my office at (610) 259-7016 or stop by during our regular business hours, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at 1500 Garrett Rd., Upper Darby.

Cookies & Cocoa is just two weeks away!
|
Mark your calendars for Thursday, December 18! My annual winter open house, Cookies & Cocoa with Rep. Curry, will be held at my district office in Barclay Square from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Come meet me and my team, enjoy sweet treats and cocoa, and get information about the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program, which closes for applications on December 31. We can’t wait to see you!

Understanding Your Electric Bill
|
On Monday energy supply prices adjusted, which means a higher electric bill for many ratepayers across Pennsylvania. This change is applied to the electricity you use, so as we’re headed into the winter months it’s a good time to prepare for not only the increase in the cost of electricity, but also the increase in usage people usually see as the weather gets colder. Weatherize your home by sealing drafts and replacing your furnace filter, and explore other energy-saving tools.
If you’re concerned about paying your utility bill, contact your provider now to ask about assistance programs or payment plan options before it’s too late. Acting early is important to give yourself time to explore options that can help keep your service connected.

Celebrating the Crown Act
|
In my last e-blast, I shared the exciting news that the Pennsylvania Crown Act was signed into law by Governor Shapiro. While we’ve already shared this milestone, I’m so proud of this law—and of my friends Representative La’Tasha D. Mayes and Speaker Joanna McClinton for making it a reality—that I can’t help but share more snapshots from the bill signing on Nov. 24. There is pure joy in these photos because this moment is so significant for Black women and men across our state.

Yesterday, I attended the latest Hi-Q contest of Delco Hi-Q, the oldest continuous academic quiz competition in the United States. Teams from Upper Darby High School, Haverford High School, and Radnor High School competed at UDHS to see which team could answer the most questions correctly based on standard high school courses.
Congratulations to Haverford on their win, and to all the students who participated.

I was honored to meet Angelo, a local Make-A-Wish Philadelphia recipient who was celebrated earlier this week. Thanks to Make-A-Wish, Keystone First, and Delaware & Susquehanna Valley, he and his family are headed to Disney World. My team and I send our best wishes to Angelo for an exciting trip and continued success on his healing journey.
