Rep. Gina H. Curry March 21, 2025 | 2:11 PM
Hello Neighbors, Community Members and Friends,
We started the week on a high note with the passing of Lloyd's Law! Denying life insurance because you wanted to be able to save a loved one's life with naloxone, will keep the life-saving drug out of the hands of those who need it. That's why I'm working to make sure insurers can't discriminate against substance use disorder. I want to thank all of my colleagues who voted for this bill and urge those in the state Senate to give their approval so this can get to the Governor's desk!
On Tuesday, I spoke at a workplace abuse press conference. We need psychological safety in the workplace. An absence of safety can lead to workplace bullying and an overall toxic environment. An estimated 48.6 million Americans are bullied at their workplace.
On Thursday, my fellow PABMHC Co-Chair, state Rep. La'Tasha D. Mayes and I discussed my resolution to honor Black Midwives Day in Pennsylvania. Black Midwives Day is not just about honoring history — it is a necessary strategy to improve the troubling trends of Black maternal health outcomes across the Commonwealth.

Shred Event
Last Saturday we had our shredding event with Rep Boyd's office. Some of our leaders from the Upper Darby Council and Upper Darby School board came out and volunteered! The whole team did a great job in the misty chilly rain!
Property Tax/Rent Rebate Event
On Thursday, Team Curry stopped by the Atkinson Apartments to help seniors with their Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program applications!
Read Across America
Our office was honored to participate in an amazing opportunity to read to some of our youngest constituents in the William Penn School District in honor of Read Across America activities happening across the commonwealth. I read to an excited group of 3rd graders who were eager to listen to the award-winning book titled Squizzy the Black Squirrel, A Fabulous Fable of Friendship by Chuck Stone. Mr. Stone was a world renowned journalist and a member of the Tuskegee Airmen during WWII. It was a wonderful experience for all.

The 2025-26 Student Teacher Support (student teacher stipend) program is still taking applications! This program provides a $10,000 stipend to student teachers. The Governor’s 2025-26 budget proposal calls for $40 million for the Student Teacher Support program. This program began in the 2024-25 school year with $30 million available. More information, eligibility requirements, and application information can be found on the PHEAA website.
The Grow PA Scholarship program is open! This program offers scholarships to Pennsylvania students studying an in-demand occupation at an institution of higher education located in Pennsylvania. Grow PA Scholarship recipients must agree to live and work in Pennsylvania after graduation for the number of years they received the scholarship.
