PA state Rep. Morgan Cephas joined other elected officials, school district and community leaders, and the Cassidy community to cut the ribbon on the New Lewis C. Cassidy Academics Plus School in Overbrook. Once one of Philadelphia’s most structurally deficient school buildings, Cassidy Elementary has been replaced with a state-of-the-art learning facility. Cephas was instrumental in securing funding for the project, which is the first new elementary school built for the School District of Philadelphia in decades. Cephas also had the opportunity to interview Chelsea Mongue, the former student of Cassidy Elementary who brought statewide attention to the deplorable conditions in the old school building.
This event focused on promoting the Perinatal Psychiatry Access Line (TiPS), recognizing maternal health innovation fund recipient Maternity Care Coalition (MCC), and maternal mortality review committee fund recipient Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH) Organized Voices for Actions (OVA). The event also spotlighted MCC as the Southeast Maternal Health Coalition Lead and include honorary check awards for each organization’s role in advancing maternal health.
This event will bring together community-based organizations (CBOs) and stakeholders to promote the Philly Joy Bank and BirthBridge Philly and encourage connections with local services. The event will focus on maternal health initiatives, particularly highlighting the significance of the pilot program and initiative. PA Black Maternal Health Caucus Co-chair Rep.
