PA state Rep. Morgan Cephas joined other elected officials, school district and community leaders, and the Cassidy community to cut the ribbon on the New Lewis C. Cassidy Academics Plus School in Overbrook. Once one of Philadelphia’s most structurally deficient school buildings, Cassidy Elementary has been replaced with a state-of-the-art learning facility. Cephas was instrumental in securing funding for the project, which is the first new elementary school built for the School District of Philadelphia in decades. Cephas also had the opportunity to interview Chelsea Mongue, the former student of Cassidy Elementary who brought statewide attention to the deplorable conditions in the old school building.
