HARRISBURG, May 13 – The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has unanimously adopted a resolution introduced by state Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, commemorating this week as National Police Week in Pennsylvania.
Burns’ resolution (H.R. 166) also recognizes this Friday, which is also National Peace Officers Memorial Day, as Police Officers Memorial Day in Pennsylvania.
"I hope all Pennsylvanians will take some time on Friday to remember the officers who lost their lives while on duty," Burns said. "Our police officers serve and protect us with courage and dedication, and we need to support their efforts."
According to the website policeweek.org, four Pennsylvania officers lost their lives in the line of duty between September 2013 and December 2014.
The first National Police Officers Memorial Day was created in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy.
