Learning Lamp to increase space for early learning, thanks to state program

HARRISBURG, Jan. 15 State Rep. Frank Burns announced that Learning Lamp Inc. in Johnstown will benefit from $18,000 in tax credits from the Neighborhood Assistance Program.

The nonprofit organization in partnership with the Central Cambria School District will use the funding to repurpose unused space into early learning classrooms.

According to Burns, child care is limited in the Central Cambria School District – there are only 300 spots to serve more than 500 children younger than 4, and this funding will help the organization continue its mission of providing support to students who need it.

“Quality child care is something that every working parent strives to find, and there’s often a lack of available resources, especially in rural areas like Central Cambria,” Burns said. “This will help address a need and get parents back to work.”

The goals of the program are to promote community participation and collaboration among community nonprofits and businesses while also helping a distressed area or low-income population in a neighborhood. Neighborhood nonprofits apply for tax credits based on pending contributions from businesses.
