Rep. Bradford Announces $3.1 Million for Local Infrastructure Improvement Projects

East Norriton, PA -- Pennsylvania House Majority Leader Matt Bradford today announced more than $3.1 million in state investments that will support infrastructure improvement projects throughout central Montgomery County.
“Our communities are tackling projects every day that are important to maintaining and improving our local infrastructure, from addressing aging sewer pipes and stormwater controls to protecting and improving roadways and sidewalks,” Bradford said. “I’m so pleased that these significant investments will help our municipalities complete these infrastructure projects.”
The projects were approved today by the Commonwealth Financing Authority and will be administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED).
Montgomery County: Montgomery County Redevelopment Authority, on behalf of Variety, the Children's Charity of the Delaware Valley, was awarded $500,000 toward the construction of a vocational building and an ADA-accessible cabin in Worcester Township. Variety Club Camp & Development Center for Handicapped Children, a 501(c)3 that provides children and young adults with disabilities with social, educational, and vocational programs, currently operates at a 77-acre property that offers afterschool programs, weekend respite camps and retreats, summer programs, extended school year and workforce development programs to approximately 10 children, ages 5-24. This project involves the construction of a new 8,500-square-foot building that would house year-round vocational programs, with storage areas and one on one professional spaces. The building would also serve as a welcome center and pickup/drop-off location. One new ADA-accessible cabin will be constructed to serve as a safe home away from home for medically fragile campers.
East Norriton Township: The township was awarded $1 million for a storm sewer improvement project within the Stony Creek Watershed. The funding will be used for construction and engineering costs to replace the undersized and deteriorated pipes and swale that convey water from Pacer Lane to Sardano Lane, which will reduce the risk of flooding and improve the overall stormwater system within the township. The township was also awarded $268,066 to purchase a street sweeper that will be used to clean all of the roads maintained by the township, which would improve stormwater pollution management and decrease the risk of localized flooding by removing trash and debris that can block drainage inlets.
Schwenksville Borough: The borough was awarded $755,180 toward a project to reconstruct Summit Avenue, from Woodland Avenue to Hillcrest Avenue, to allow for safer travel, which would include repaving the roadway, constructing sidewalks, and revamping stormwater controls. The borough authority was awarded $150,111 to replace approximately 230 feet of 4-inch diameter water main along Game Farm Road with an eight-inch water main. The existing water main limits the ability of the authority to convey peak flows for fire protection from its two storage tanks to the main distribution mains of the authority. The new main will better meet the fire protection demands and provide redundancy to water customers of the authority.
Perkiomen Township: The township was awarded $211,494 to make improvements to its sanitary sewer system to correct current environmental hazards and prevent further damage, including replacing the basket wall, lining the sanitary sewer main, and repairing the concrete encasement at the creek crossing. The township municipal authority was awarded $101,530 to purchase equipment to perform inspection work for its sewer collection service, which will help locate issues that could lead to collapse and/or help the authority prioritize areas of the system for repair.
Worcester Township: The township was awarded $125,000 to purchase a dump truck with accessories, which will be utilized for a year-round, curbside collection program for yard waste.
