Kulik announces over $4.5 million in state grants for community and school projects

CORAOPOLIS, Oct.23 – State Rep. Anita Kulik, D-Allegheny, announced today that grant funding totaling over $4.5 million is coming to the 45th Legislative District to fund a range of projects to improve infrastructure, public safety and local services.

“The investments in projects that improve essential infrastructure, enhance public safety, and support school renovations are crucial for strengthening our communities,” Kulik said. “I work hard to advocate for funding for these projects because I understand how important they are to everyone involved and the positive impact they will have on residents' lives.”

The grants are provided through the Statewide Local Share Account and the Public School Facility Improvement Grant programs, which are administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

Kulik said 10 separate grants awarded from the Statewide Local Share Account program include:

  • $300,000 for renovations to VFW Post 418 in McKees Rocks, including roof replacement, HVAC upgrades, accessible bathrooms and interior updates.
  • $250,000 for upgrades to the Bagnato, Mansfield, Elk, Izzy and William parking lots in Carnegie. The project includes upgrading parking kiosks, adding light poles and installing trash and recycling bins.
  • $150,000 to stabilize eroding streambanks and install retaining walls along Campbells Run in Carnegie.
  • $110,150 to address deficiencies at the Nevillewood Woodhall pond in Collier Township to improve water quality treatment and long-term detention of collected stormwater.
  • $600,000 to renovate and construct an addition to the Presto Volunteer Fire Department’s station in Collier Township. The project includes widening the garage bays, an addition to house fire equipment, adding bathroom and shower facilities, and a day room/kitchen area.
  • $249,850 to replace waterline infrastructure along Mill Street between Fourth and Fifth avenues in Coraopolis’ business district.
  • $174,600 for the Coraopolis Water and Sewer Authority to install three mixing tanks in the borough to provide customers with sustainable drinking water.
  • $106,068 for the McKees Rocks Police Department to upgrade essential equipment including tasers, firearms, laptops, radios, breaching kits and trauma kits.
  • $225,999 for the rehabilitation of Pennsbury Village Borough’s public sanitary sewer system.
  • $150,000 to extend the public sanitary sewer system in Robinson Township.

Grants from the Public School Facility Improvement Grant program were awarded to the following:

  • $1.75 million for the Sto-Rox School District to upgrade HVAC systems at Upper Elementary and Junior/Senior High School facilities in Stowe and Kennedy townships.
  • $500,000 for the Carlynton School District for improvements to Carnegie Elementary School in Carnegie, including upgrades to the windows, doors, and security system at the building exterior, reconfiguration of restrooms and classrooms to improve accessibility, updating the safety of ceilings and doors, improving interior security systems, and upgrading plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority is an independent agency of the PA Department of Community and Economic Development that administers Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus packages.
