More than $310,000 to make McCandless more accessible for pedestrians

MCCANDLESS, March 26 – Today, Rep. Arvind Venkat and Sen. Lindsey Williams, both D-Allegheny, announced $310,557 in state funding to make McCandless more accessible for pedestrians.
The funding is as follows:
- $168,139 to the Sisters of Divine Providence to install a new walkway along Babcock Boulevard.
- $142,418 to the Town of McCandless to construct sidewalks and ramps along North Meadow Drive.
“With McCandless ranked as largely below average for walkability and most errands requiring a car, these funds will make McCandless more accessible for pedestrians,” Venkat said. “In 2022, more than 7,500 pedestrians died in the U.S., the highest since 1981. These investments in McCandless will ensure that we enhance our community’s walkability, as well as safeguard lives.”
Williams said, “The town of McCandless has been a local leader in prioritizing connectivity and improving sidewalk access across the entire town. I'm proud to continue to bring state resources to support their ongoing work to increase connections between neighborhoods, people and businesses, while emphasizing pedestrian safety.”
The Commonwealth Financing Authority awards grants from the Multimodal Transportation Fund, which provides funding to develop, rehabilitate and enhance modes of transportation across Pennsylvania.
