Mayes welcomes nearly $10 million for local construction projects

State grants fund supports for autistic residents, community arts and higher ed

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 15 – State Rep. La’Tasha D. Mayes today announced nearly $10 million in state grant funding has been awarded to support various construction projects across the 24th Legislative District.

“With these investments from the state, we’re building greater opportunities for both residents and visitors of our communities,” said Mayes, D-Allegheny. “I’m committed to working with my colleagues in the House and Senate to win every possible grant dollar and make our corner of Pittsburgh the best it can be.”

Mayes said the following are some of the grants awarded to the 24th Legislative District:

  • $1.77 million to the Zoological Society of Pittsburgh to construct a new, single-story giraffe building with a footprint and mezzanine level for husbandry and care.
  • $1.5 million to Evolve Coaching Inc. to support the construction of the new Evolve Coaching Inclusion Center. Funds will be used for demolition and renovation of 5025 Penn Ave., as well as demolition of the attached gravel lot and new construction of a four-stop elevator, parking space, retaining wall, extension of sidewalks, tree implantation and fenced-in patio.
  • $1 million to Bloomfield-Garfield Corp. to help revitalize the Negley Rotunda.
  • $709,450 to Carlow University for building renovations, including roof replacement and asbestos abatement.

Mayes said this round of grant funding comes from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, a Commonwealth grant program administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects.
