Allegheny House Dems: $324,000 awarded to Senior Community Centers
State grants fund improvements at four local senior centers

PITTSBURGH, May 18 – More than $324,000 has been awarded to support local senior centers, members of the Allegheny County Democratic Delegation to the Pennsylvania House announced today.
“Supporting our seniors is vital to the quality of life in Allegheny County and in the 24th Legislative District,” said Rep. La'Tasha D. Mayes. “I know these investments in our senior centers will tighten the social fabric in our communities and improve the daily condition of our most elderly residents.”
“As a regular visitor to our community's healthy active living centers, I see firsthand how important these facilities and their staff are to the residents of my district,” said Rep. Dan Deasy. “These senior community center grants will be used for critical capital improvements.”
“Senior centers often play a big role in helping seniors thrive and enjoy their golden years,” said delegation chair Rep. Nick Pisciottano. “These state grants will improve existing programs helping seniors in Allegheny County socialize with each other, access food, stay healthy, and more.”
Funding was awarded to the following senior centers in Allegheny County:
- Macedonia Family and Community Enrichment Center – $84,421 for programs and services.
- Mount Washington Healthy Active Living Community Center – $50,000 for capital improvements and renovations.
- Vintage, Inc. – $99,898 for capital improvements and renovations.
- West End Healthy Active Living Community Center – $90,200 for capital improvements and renovations.
The funding is part of a package of $2 million awarded to senior centers throughout the state for capital improvements and renovations, programs and services, nutrition and technology, and other resources. Funding for the grants comes from the Pennsylvania Lottery.
