HARRISBURG, March 2 – As part of an historic change within the Pennsylvania House that saw the chamber’s first woman elected speaker, state Rep. Dan Miller, D-Allegheny, has been named the Majority Whip as Democrats assume control of the chamber for the first time in more than a decade.
As Whip Miller will work closely with Speaker Joanna McClinton, D-Phila., and Democratic Leader Matt Bradford, D-Lancaster, to not only shepherd legislation through the chamber, but set the legislative agenda for the legislature.
“As a first-generation American, I cannot stress how proud I am to be here today, to be taking on this leadership role for our commonwealth and our democracy,” Miller said. “We have a lot of work ahead of us, and with a narrow majority in the House, we will have to be strategic about how we move legislation and pursue our policy agenda in the year ahead. I am excited to take this challenge on, and I look forward to working closely with Speaker McClinton and Leader Bradford to keep Pennsylvania moving forward.”
Miller was elected to the House of Representatives in 2013. In 2018, he was elected by his peers to be chair of the Allegheny County House Democratic Delegation and in 2020 he became caucus chair of the Democratic Caucus. As state representative, Miller has received awards for his advocacy for people with disabilities and has a been a staunch supporter of emergency responders, education, and labor organizations among other issues.
“Today marks a new day in the state House, one with new opportunities and chances to work together to pass smart policies and legislation that works for every Pennsylvanian,” Miller said. “I am grateful for this opportunity to serve our commonwealth and the families that call it home.”
