Young announces $150,000 for FDR Park improvements

HARRISBURG, Jan. 28 – State Rep. Regina Young, D-Phila./Delaware, announced today a grant for $150,000 has been awarded to the Fairmount Park Conservancy to construct the Franklin 5K Gateway in FDR Park in South Philadelphia. The funding comes from the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program.

“This grant is going to help connect existing areas and new fields within FDR Park,” said Young. “Construction of the gateway for the Franklin 5K Loop is an important part of our redevelopment within our beloved park. These gateways will complete portions of the trail that connect to the new 20th Street entryways into the park. This is going to create more recreational opportunities not just for our community, but for the many visitors who come through FDR Park throughout the year.”

FDR Park is a 348-acre park located in South Philadelphia and is one of the most heavily used sites in the entire Philadelphia Park System.

The grant was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which is an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development that administers Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus packages.
