Budget Hearings Continue in Harrisburg

Public hearings continued this week with the PA House Appropriations Committee on Gov. Josh Shapiro’s 2025-26 budget proposal. We had real talk this week with some of the agencies that support our district the most. Click here to watch a quick recap of the full week.

One of the most interesting discussions was the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. My office has recently worked closely with both agencies on the environmental incident at Bartram’s Garden, which exposed issues of communication and transparency with the DEP. You can click the image below to watch our exchange about what has been learned through that process and about the natural gem that is Bartram’s Garden.

Investing in Traffic Safety

I’m excited to announce two grants coming to our area totaling over $673,000! The Philadelphia Airport will be constructing an employee and pedestrian walkway to create safer and more accessible continuous walkways between terminals, commercial buildings and plazas. Safety and accessibility enhancements for the Philadelphia International Airport are always in order as air traffic and commerce fuels our economy.

Also, the signalization project for South Broad Street adjacent to the Philadelphia Navy Yard received a grant to improve connectivity for pedestrian and vehicular safety and accessibility. As we continue to see the redevelopment of the Navy Yard area, traffic and safety improvements are required for the increased tourism and industry coming to South Broad Street.

Protecting Education

Video

Humanity matters. Education is the bottom line but the funding cuts that are proposed in

Washington would do drastic harm to students, teachers, families, and communities across Pennsylvania. We're fighting back and will not go silently. I joined my colleagues of the PA House and Senate Appropriations committees to voice our support for advocacy to oppose the billions of dollars in drastic cuts proposed by the Trump administration to public education. Watch my comments above.

Confronting the Chaos

During our first Women in Government event, we talked a lot about the actions that are happening right now with the federal government in Washington, D.C. It has been very overwhelming with what seems like daily attacks on our neighbors, our freedoms and basic rights. Just remember that there are always people to help. If you are concerned about the actions being taken on immigration, I encourage you to contact these local organizations listed in this document. Additionally, while my office is here to assist you with state and local services, your concerns on these federal actions need to be heard by your federal officials. Check out the list of our congressional and senatorial officials and contact their offices for assistance or to let them know about your concerns. We’ve seen recently how advocacy and loud objections can lead to a course reversal or reevaluation by the president and his administration.

Don’t give up and don’t give in.

Know your rights and stay vigilant for your family and your community.
