Ensuring State Money Works for YOU

This week public hearings began with the PA House Appropriations Committee on Gov. Josh Shapiro’s 2025-26 budget proposal. Working for you as a majority member of the committee is one of the most important parts of my job. For three weeks, I'll be talking to the leaders of state agencies to ensure that this budget delivers for our communities and works for everyone in PA.

This week, we had informative discussions with agencies like PennDOT, the State Police, and DCED. One of the most enlightening hearings was with our State School of Higher Education (PASSHE). I asked the heads of several institutions about how they are coping in the post-COVID world with the basic needs of students – beyond just tuition, but for housing, food, and mental health. You can click the image below to watch that exchange.

Supporting Our First Responders

I’m proud to announce that a grant was recently awarded to the Tinicum Township Fire Co. in Essington. This award of over $15,000 means that our volunteers at Station 48 can be better equipped to serve and protect our neighborhoods and spend less time fundraising to be able to do their vital work. I want to emphasize the value and importance of our local first responders and volunteers in our communities.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Next Nutrition Event

Healthy Awareness Month is expanding into March with an additional virtual workshop on Healthy Nutrition! Join us Tuesday, March 18 for this exciting presentation – our previous nutrition workshop was popular and well received, so I’m hopeful that you can join us to learn more about how easy it is to make eating healthy a priority.

Read Between the $$ recap

My series on financial literacy continues in 2025! This week’s seminar on Utilizing Tax-Advantaged Vehicles was extremely informative. You can watch again on my website RepReginaYoung.com/FinancialLiteracy, as well as all the previous meetings. There’s also a link to connect with the presenters for additional information about any of these financial topics.

Continuing the Conversation about Representation

This month’s Women in Government meeting was a phenomenal discussion with three amazing women about their role in government and their journey in their careers and lives. If you missed it, you can watch on my Facebook page or on my website.

I’m proud to represent a legislative district where over 53% of the people are women. Your government should reflect who you are so, in 2025, I’m celebrating and highlighting the women who represent our communities at all levels of government with a monthly series of virtual meetings and in-person events that you should plan to attend to learn more about these amazing women, their achievements, the importance of representation, and how their work impacts our families and neighborhoods. Stay tuned for information about our next discussion!

Confronting the Chaos

During our first Women in Government event, we talked a lot about the actions that are happening right now with the federal government in Washington, D.C. It has been very overwhelming with what seems like daily attacks on our neighbors, our freedoms and basic rights. Just remember that there are always people to help. If you are concerned about the actions being taken on immigration, I encourage you to contact these local organizations listed in this document. Additionally, while my office is here to assist you with state and local services, your concerns on these federal actions need to be heard by your federal officials. Check out the list of our congressional and senatorial officials and contact their offices for assistance or to let them know about your concerns. We’ve seen recently how advocacy and loud objections can lead to a course reversal or reevaluation by the president and his administration.

Don’t give up and don’t give in.

Know your rights and stay vigilant for your family and your community.

IN THE COMMUNITY

My Senior Valentines!

I’m glad that so many of our neighbors came out to celebrate Valentine's Day a little late with us on Tuesday at Unico Village Senior Apartments in Southwest Philly. Lunch was delicious, the bingo was competitive, and we were able to connect many folks with state and local resources and information.

Bringing Resources Closer to You

Did you know that we have multiple satellite locations to bring our services closer to you? We’re meeting you where you’re at with these mobile sites to make it easier to connect. This week, my staff was at St. Paul Metropolitan AME Church and the Eastwick Library to help folks with valuable state and local information and resources. Check out the list of weekly locations at the bottom of this email and visit us without having to travel too far!
