Steele announces more than $1.25 million for infrastructure projects

Funding to invest in infrastructure to benefit cyclists, motorists, pedestrians

HARRISON, March 26 – Three grants, totaling more than $1.25 million, will invest in transportation infrastructure within the 33rd Legislative District, making the townships of Harrison and O’Hara, and Sharpsburg Borough safer for residents, state Rep. Mandy Steele, D-Allegheny, announced.

“As the state representative for the 33rd Legislative District, I prioritize investments that put the safety of communities first, and that is why I advocated for more than $1.25 million for our infrastructure,” Steele said. “With Pennsylvania having some of the oldest infrastructure in the country, the 33rd Legislative District would benefit from enhancements to our infrastructure, which include upgrading a traffic signal, constructing a roundabout, and installing sidewalks. These investments will make the townships of Harrison and O’Hara, and Sharpsburg Borough, safer and more accessible.

“In 2022, Allegheny County’s traffic fatalities spiked to 84, making it the deadliest year since 2005. This funding will make massive strides toward reversing these trends by funding projects to ensure cyclists, motorists, and pedestrians may securely share space on our roadways.”

The awarded funding:

  • $553,974 to Harrison Township to upgrade the traffic signal at the intersection of Freeport and Springhill roads.
  • $500,000 to Sharpsburg Borough to construct a roundabout.
  • $200,000 to O’Hara Township to install sidewalks along Alpha and Gamma drives.

The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants to develop, rehabilitate and enhance modes of transportation across Pennsylvania.
