My Oct. 3 Shred Event

I will be hosting a free shredding event on Saturday, Oct. 3 to help you safely dispose of papers and disks with sensitive information. It will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at my district office at 1296 Pittsburgh St. in Cheswick. It’s a great way to protect your identity by ensuring documents don’t fall into the wrong hands, such as financial statements, cancelled checks, legal and insurance papers.

So plan on stopping by if you have any documents you’d like to shred, and feel free to call my office with any questions at (724) 826-5151.

Celebrating another huge investment in the Allegheny Valley

Gov. Josh Shapiro this week announced a $42 million investment by Tandem Foods to expand its operations in O’Hara Township — the second major investment in our area in recent months. Tandem was weighing Florida versus Pennsylvania for its expansion plans, and we won! This means hundreds of jobs saved and nearly 100 more jobs added in our area.

The project is being aided by a $420,000 grant coordinated by the governor’s BusinessPA team at the state Department of Community and Economic Development.

This investment follows the recent announcement by Curtis-Wright to expand its operations in Cheswick with an $80 million investment. This is outstanding work by Gov. Shapiro and his team, and I’m elated for our future and proud to be a voice for our area.

Supporting union workers in Duquesne Light negotiations

I represent a lot of people who are very frustrated with the unpredictable weather and subsequent power outages that we’ve dealt with lately, and this week I came out in support of the union workers who are embroiled in a contract dispute with Duquesne Light Co. The storms and outages underscore that utility workers need good contracts that will put enough qualified workers on the job when we need them.

The IBEW Local 29 recently voted to authorize a strike amid ongoing contract negotiations with Duquesne Light Co. The union’s current contract with the utility provider expires Sept. 30.

Discounted vehicle registration fees for eligible retirees

House Fellowship Program accepting applications
for spring 2027

The PA House Fellowship Program is accepting applications from eligible Pennsylvania college students for the spring 2027 semester. Fellows work in committees or leadership offices at the state Capitol. The program provides compensation and may also offer college credit. Eligible applicants include college juniors, seniors, graduate students, or law students with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Applications are due by Oct. 1.

Veterans services at my office

Twice a month, a Veterans Service Officer (VSO) will be at my Cheswick office, 1296 Pittsburgh St., to assist veterans with a variety of services. The VSO will be available on the third Wednesday and Thursday of each month.
