My Jan. 21 town hall on cell phones in schools
The House is considering my bipartisan bill that would restrict cell phone use in PA schools, and I also want to hear from my constituents about the issue. I will be holding a town hall on cell phones in schools from 6 to 7 p.m. on January 21 at Cooper-Siegel Community Library in the James I. Mitnick Room.
My H.B. 1814, currently pending in the House Education Committee, would require all public schools in Pennsylvania to restrict student cell phone possession and use during the school day, with exceptions for certain emergency and medical needs approved by school authorities. If enacted, Pennsylvania would join more than 20 other states that prohibit student phone use during the school day.
My appointment to the Phipps Conservatory board
I’m proud to report that I’ve been appointed to the Board of Trustees for the Phipps Conservatory. The Phipps Conservatory is a regional treasure, and I look forward to working with them toward their mission of promoting environmental well-being. Thank you for this opportunity!
Harrison’s Christmas parade
I had a blast last weekend at Harrison’s Christmas parade. Seeing so many smiling kids really made my day. And thanks to Citizens Hose for letting me ride on the truck!
Thanking local police who shop with kids
Harmar Township Police, Springdale Police Department, and Allegheny Valley Regional Police shared something special with me. Every year, they raise money to take kids Christmas shopping, kids that otherwise wouldn’t be able to. It warmed my heart to see the excited kids walking the aisles with these kind police officers.
My office is collecting food donations
With more families struggling to put food on the table, my office is serving as a drop-off site for food donations. If you are able, please consider donating non-perishable food items, which we will deliver weekly to food banks and pantries in our area. Stop by any weekday between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at my Cheswick office at 1296 Pittsburgh St.
Applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program opened recently, a month later than usual because of the federal government shutdown. Through the program, you can apply for a cash grant to help pay your heating bill—from $200 to $1,000 based on your household size, income, and fuel type.
