Kinkead: $460,000 awarded for Avalon road, sidewalk improvements

State funding secured to rehabilitate Elizabeth Ave.

AVALON, Feb. 24 – State Rep. Emily Kinkead announced today a state grant of nearly $460,000 has been awarded to improve sidewalks and roads in the borough.

“These funds are going to create safer and more accessible streets in Avalon Borough,” said Kinkead, D-Allegheny. “I’m proud to have worked with state Senator Wayne Fontana to secure this investment benefitting pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers in our community. Progress happens one block at a time, and we’ll continue working to make roads safer across Allegheny County.”

Kinkead said the grant of $458,862 will be used to upgrade transportation infrastructure, including roads, sidewalks, and curbs along Elizabeth Avenue in Avalon Borough.

The grant was awarded from the Multimodal Transportation Fund, which is administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority and provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the commonwealth. Funds may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.
