AVALON, Dec. 19 – The Commonwealth Financing Authority has awarded nearly $550,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funding to support municipal sewer upgrades and a local nonprofit, state Rep. Emily Kinkead announced today.

“This funding will play a key role in building and maintaining a robust water infrastructure system our community members can rely on every day,” Kinkead said. “I want to thank my partners in the state Senate and all others who helped facilitate this investment in the well-being of our local residents.”

Funds from ARPA were awarded to the following entities in the 20th Legislative District:

  • $322,500 to Avalon Borough for the construction of stormwater sewers along South Home and McKinley avenues.
  • $151,283 to Avalon Borough to perform sanitary sewer repairs.
  • $65,501 to Ross Township for the replacement of sanitary sewer lines.
  • $10,000 to Doors Open Pittsburgh Inc. to fund operating expenses.

The sewer funding was distributed through the PA Small Water and Sewer Program, which provides for small water, sewer, and storm system water infrastructure projects. Act 54 of 2022 appropriated $105.6 million of ARPA funds to the PA Small Water and Sewer Program.

Funding for Doors Open was distributed through the PA Arts and Culture Recovery Program, which provides grants to nonprofit arts and culture organizations located in the commonwealth. Act 54 of 2022 appropriated $15 million of ARPA funds to the COVID-19 ARPA PA Arts and Culture Recovery Program.

The above grants were awarded through the CFA, an independent agency of the state Department of Community and Economic Development established in 2004 to administer Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus packages.
