Rep. Melissa Cerrato October 22, 2024 | 3:53 PM
HARRISBURG, Oct. 22 – State Rep. Melissa Cerrato, D-Montgomery, today announced the award of several high-profile state grants for local projects that will benefit residents of the 151st Legislative District.
One grant originated from the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program, which was created to provide grants to public school districts and area career and technical schools for eligible facility improvement projects. The program is administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development under the direction of the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
- Hatboro-Horsham School District, Hallowell Elementary School Roof Replacement Project, $575,000
The school's roof is leaking, and the current asphalt shingle-style roof has been determined to be insufficient to prevent the problem from recurring as loose shingles continue to blow off because of high winds. The proposed project will remove the shingle roof and install a new metal roof to prevent future water infiltration. PSFIG funds will be used for renovation and engineering costs.
The other grants originate from the Statewide Local Share Account, created under the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act. The act provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support projects in the public interest within the Pennsylvania.
- Ambler Borough, Wissahickon Fire Co. Renovations, $1 million
The project will include the replacement of single-pane windows with insulated glass and frames, replacement of apparatus bay doors, renovating the public toilets on main floor to be ADA compliant, renovating the kitchen space, and remodeling the front entrance and configuring the former club space to provide crew space for a lounge. Renovations to the exterior will include repaving the parking area, drainage improvements, and steps and retaining wall repairs.
- Horsham Township, Emergency Management Vehicle, $76,275
The project will allow the township to enhance its emergency management response and mitigation capabilities. The project will consist of the purchase of a 2024 Ford F150 Responder truck with a storage cap, a pull-out cargo tray, and emergency management equipment. The vehicle and equipment will provide for more efficient and effective command and control or resources at emergency incidents.
- Horsham Water & Sewer Authority, Crane Truck Replacement, $175,070
Horsham Water & Sewer Authority's current crane truck is 20 years old and has exceeded its useful life. The crane truck will be used to move and deliver treatment chemical drums, lift sewage pumping stations for maintenance and repairs, and move spare equipment between the Authority's different components such as pumping stations and storage tanks.
- Montgomery County Redevelopment Authority, Mitzvah Circle Renovation, $750,000
The project includes renovations to the warehouse facility to include roofing, stucco/exterior painting, enclosing loading dock, heating/air conditioning/ventilation installation, new offices/restrooms/breakroom, and electrical upgrades. This project will revitalize the community as it will complete the Mitzvah Circle land development plan left incomplete by the previous owner. These renovations will allow Mitzvah Circle to continue its work of providing basic material goods, case management, coaching, and referrals to individuals and families in Montgomery Country facing poverty, homelessness, serious illness, and difficult circumstances. Additionally, many residents have expressed great enthusiasm for Mitzvah Circle's presence in the neighborhood. The renovations will make both the building and surrounding area a "treasured gem."
"State-level funding is essential for advancing local development, as it helps communities grow and improve without placing added pressure on taxpayers," Cerrato said. "By funding crucial projects such as infrastructure and public services, states ensure continued progress while maintaining lower local tax rates. Congratulations to the recipients of this funding – your commitment is a great reflection on our community."
