I have a question for you. When was the last time you asked a young person what they think government should actually be working on?
Not what we think matters to them. Not what politicians or the news tell us matters. But what is genuinely keeping them up at night?
Well, I did just that, and I have to tell you, the answers really stuck with me.
Between an eye-opening college classroom discussion, some long overdue good news for Pennsylvania retirees, and a few opportunities to enjoy the fall festivities with our neighbors, there's plenty to catch up on!
So grab your coffee (or whatever gets you through your inbox ??), and let me fill you in!

?? A Classroom Conversation That Every Legislator Should Hear
|
I recently returned to Montgomery County Community College for their Legislator in Residence class, and WOW, these students came prepared!
Before my visit, they submitted incredibly thoughtful questions about legislation, public policy, and how government works. I answered every question and brought printed responses for each student.
But once we got through the prepared material, I decided to change things up.
I asked them a pretty simple question:
"What is negatively impacting YOUR life the most right now, and what do you wish government would do something about?"
|
And let me tell you, they did not hold back!
The overwhelming number one answer? GAS PRICES!
Not far behind were rising utility bills, college affordability, housing costs, and SEPTA funding cuts that are making transportation increasingly difficult.
See the connection?
AFFORDABILITY.
These young adults weren't asking for anything extravagant. They were talking about being able to afford to get to work and school, pay their bills, continue their education, and eventually find a home of their own.
Things that generations before them were told were part of the American Dream.
I walked out of that classroom thinking about how often we talk about preparing young people for the future while overlooking how difficult we're making their present.
As a mom of four daughters, these conversations hit close to home. I want my children, and every child growing up in Pennsylvania, to have opportunities to build a good life without feeling like they're starting out ten steps behind.
We have some serious work to do when it comes to making Pennsylvania affordable, and I'm grateful to these students for reminding me exactly why that work matters.
Sometimes the most valuable thing we can do as elected officials is stop talking and start listening.

?? FINALLY! Some Good News for Pennsylvania Retirees!
|
Now, speaking of affordability, let's talk about some people who have been waiting FAR too long for relief!
I was incredibly proud to join my House colleagues, the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA), and retired public servants to celebrate a long overdue pension increase for some of Pennsylvania's longest retired public employees.
These are the teachers who educated generations of students and the public servants who dedicated their careers to making our communities better.
Many have spent years watching the cost of groceries, utilities, housing, and just about everything else rise while their retirement income struggled to keep pace.
Well, we finally got something done about it!
|
As part of Pennsylvania's 2026–27 state budget, we delivered a much needed cost of living adjustment for eligible retirees, without adding costs to taxpayers.
I've been advocating for this relief for years, and seeing it finally become a reality was one of those moments that reminded me why persistence matters in Harrisburg.
Retirement should be about enjoying the years you've worked so hard to earn, spending time with family, and doing the things you love.
It shouldn't mean constantly worrying about whether you can afford the next electric bill.
This victory took years of advocacy, teamwork, and people who refused to give up. I couldn't be happier that we finally got it across the finish line!

?? Candy, Costumes, and Community Resources… Oh My!
|
Okay, enough serious stuff for a minute. Let's talk about something a little more fun!
I teamed up with my colleagues, Representatives Liz Hanbidge and Ben Sanchez, and the Ambler YMCA for our Family Resource Fair and Trunk-or-Treat!
And what an afternoon it was!
We had costumes, candy, food trucks, happy kids, and plenty of Halloween spirit. I'm still not entirely sure who had more fun, the children or the adults! ??
But there was another important part of the afternoon.
|
Alongside all the Halloween excitement, families had the opportunity to connect with organizations offering valuable programs, services, and resources.
Sometimes getting families connected to the help they need doesn't require another formal meeting or a stack of paperwork. Sometimes it starts with a friendly conversation while your child is running around dressed like Spider-Man!
That's one of the reasons I love events like this. They give us the chance to make government and community resources more accessible in an environment where families can relax, ask questions, and enjoy themselves.
A huge thank you to the Ambler YMCA, my fellow representatives, our hardworking teams, participating organizations, volunteers, and all the families who joined us.
You made this event a BOO-tiful success!

?? A Little Fall Fun in Montgomery Township!
|
The fall festivities continued at the Montgomery Township Autumn Festival, where my team and I had another opportunity to catch up with our neighbors!
And yes, I know it might seem like I'm everywhere lately, but I promise I occasionally make it home! ??
Our table was busy with residents stopping by to say hello, ask questions, share concerns, or learn more about the services available through my district office.
Some conversations were about legislation, others were about local issues, and some were simply neighbors catching up.
And that's exactly how I want my office to operate.
You shouldn't have to wait until there's a problem to reach out to your state representative. Whether you need help navigating a state program, have a question about legislation, or simply want to share an idea, my team and I are here for you.
Thank you to Montgomery Township and everyone who organized such a wonderful event. And to everyone who stopped by our table, it was great seeing you!

?? Celebrating Culture, Heritage, and Togetherness
|
Another meaningful moment was supporting a resolution recognizing Chuseok, one of Korea's most cherished traditional holidays.
Chuseok is a celebration centered around family, gratitude, honoring ancestors, and coming together with loved ones.
While the traditions may be different from those many of us grew up celebrating, the values behind them are something we can all understand.
Family. Gratitude. Respect. Togetherness.
|
Pennsylvania is home to communities with so many beautiful cultures, traditions, and histories, and I believe we become stronger when we take the time to learn about and celebrate one another.
Recognizing Chuseok is a small but meaningful way to honor our Korean American neighbors and help ensure these traditions continue to be shared with future generations.
We don't all have to come from the same background or celebrate the same holidays to appreciate what brings us together.
And in a world that sometimes seems determined to focus on everything that divides us, I think that's something worth remembering.
|
Looking back on these past few days, I keep coming back to that conversation with the college students.
They weren't asking government to solve every problem in their lives. They were asking for a fair shot at building a future.
Our retirees are asking for the same kind of fairness after spending decades contributing to our communities. Families are looking for support, opportunities, and a place where their children can thrive.
Different ages, different circumstances, but a pretty similar message.
People want to work hard, take care of the people they love, and feel like they're getting somewhere.
That shouldn't be too much to ask.
I know we won't fix everything overnight, and I certainly don't have a magic wand hiding somewhere in my Harrisburg office. Trust me, I've checked! ??
But I do have a voice, a vote, an incredible team, and neighbors who aren't afraid to tell me what's working and what isn't.
And I plan to keep putting all of those things to good use.
Thank you for continuing to invite me into your schools, community events, conversations, and everyday lives. I learn something from you every single week, and those lessons travel right back to Harrisburg with me.
Until next week, take care of yourselves, look out for one another, and enjoy a little of this beautiful fall weather while it lasts!
