Childcare Matters: Local Resources Every Family Should Know

Dear Friends,

I’m truly honored to be recognized as a childcare champion in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. This acknowledgment reflects the dedication of countless families, educators, and childcare professionals who work every day to support our youngest learners.

High-quality, reliable, and affordable childcare isn’t just a convenience; it’s a cornerstone of strong families and thriving communities. When parents know their children are safe, supported, and learning, they can focus on work and other responsibilities with peace of mind. And when children have access to nurturing early learning environments, they build the social, emotional, and academic foundations that shape their future success.

To ensure families have the tools they need today, I want to highlight several vital resources available right here in Montgomery County:

Local Support Systems

  • Early Learning Resource Center (ELRC): The first stop for childcare subsidy applications (CCW) and referrals to local providers. Region 17 can be reached at 610-278-3000.
  • Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU): A key partner offering Pre-K, Head Start, and special education services. Contact them at 610-755-9400.

Affordable & Free Programs

Navigating childcare costs can be challenging, but several programs are designed to help families based on income and need:

  • Child Care Works (CCW): Helps families pay for childcare while parents work or attend school.
  • Head Start & Early Head Start: Free, comprehensive early learning programs for eligible families.
  • Pre-K Counts: Provides free, high-quality pre-kindergarten for 3- and 4-year-olds to prepare them for kindergarten and beyond.

Investing in childcare means investing in our future. It strengthens our workforce, supports early childhood development, and ensures every child has the opportunity to succeed. When families have access to dependable care, employers benefit, communities grow stronger, and children thrive.

Families ready to explore options or apply for benefits can visit findchildcare.pa.gov or call the COMPASS Helpline at 1-800-692-7462 for guidance.

I’m committed to continuing this work so that every family in Pennsylvania has access to the care they need and deserve. Together, we can build a future where every child has the chance to learn, grow, and reach their full potential.
