December 12 email: Justice for Heroes, Hope for Families, and Inspiration from Our Youth

Dear Friends,

I was honored to be invited to visit Access Services, Inc. in Colmar and observe their Vocational Day Program. This program is more than just a workplace. It is a lifeline for up to 30 individuals living with intellectual disabilities or autism. It provides opportunities to develop employment skills while also recognizing that competitive employment is not the right path for everyone. For some, the program offers a noncompetitive and highly supported environment where they can thrive according to their abilities.

What moved me most during my visit was not only seeing the participants at work but also meeting with their parents and loved ones. Parents shared how this program has given their sons and daughters a sense of purpose, dignity, and independence. They spoke about the relief of knowing their loved ones are in a safe and supportive environment where they are accepted for who they are. Clients themselves expressed pride in earning money, joy in volunteering, and excitement about being part of their community. These stories reminded me that programs like this do not just change the lives of participants, they uplift entire families.

As a member of the House Human Services Committee, I see firsthand how initiatives like the Vocational Day Program embody our mission to ensure that every individual has the opportunity to live a meaningful life connected to their community. This program is a shining example of what happens when we invest in people’s strengths and provide the resources they need to flourish.

Thank you, Access Services, for opening your doors, for the compassion you show, and for the profound impact you are making on the lives of residents and their families.

I was excited to attend the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit’s “Let’s Talk Education” event. This gathering brought together educators, community leaders, and advocates for meaningful conversations about the most pressing issues impacting education in our region.

The student speakers were truly impressive. Their voices, perspectives, and passion reminded us all why these conversations matter so deeply. And the breakfast prepared and served by the culinary students was absolutely delicious, showcasing the talent and dedication of the program.

A heartfelt thank you to Eastern Center for Arts and Technology for hosting. I always enjoy visiting and seeing the impressive upgrades they continue to make to their programs. Their commitment to preparing students for the future is inspiring.

Events like this remind us that when we come together, we can spark real change for the next generation.

On June 30th, Governor Josh Shapiro signed into law my bill, the Korean Valor Act. This legislation recognizes the Korean American veterans who fought bravely alongside United States troops during the Vietnam War and later became proud American citizens.

What may appear to be a small step in government is in truth a profound act of justice. For those who carried the burden of war, this recognition is not just symbolic. It is a promise that their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten. The approval of this Act ensures that our Korean American veterans will finally receive the honor, rights, and state veterans benefits they have earned through valor.

I was deeply moved to join a celebration with the Korean American Vietnam War Veterans Association of Pennsylvania. I felt humbled by the extraordinary kindness shown to me as I accepted a commemorative plaque. In that moment, I was reminded that even the smallest steps we take to honor our veterans can mean the world to those who gave everything in service to freedom.

We delivered another car full of donations to One House at a Time Bed for Kids program, and I could not be prouder of our community. This incredible organization provides beds and bedding for children who need a safe and comfortable place to sleep. Your generosity is helping make that possible.

Thank you to everyone who contributed. Your support means the world.

We are also a year-round drop-off location for Bed for Kids. We welcome donations of:

  • Books for ages 2–17
  • Like-new stuffed animals
  • New sheets and blankets (twin size)

Let’s keep the momentum going and continue to support this amazing cause!
