Boyd announces state grants for local conservation projects

HARRISBURG, Nov. 13 – State Rep. Heather Boyd today congratulated local recipients of Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grants for the development of several public initiatives. The following projects were funded: Glenolden, for Urban and Community Forestry in Eastern Delaware County: $276,000. To engage communities in planting trees and build local tree stewardship capacity, prepare tree inventories and maintenance plans. Delaware County, for Darby Creek Trail- Penn Pines and Bartram Park Connection: $57,000. For the acquisition of two easements on approximately 3.3 acres in Darby and Yeadon boroughs and approximately 1.2 acres in Upper Darby Township to provide approximately 1.4 miles of trail for the development of the Darby Creek Trail. Pennsylvania Horticultural Society: $1,000,000. To coordinate urban and community forestry in Philadelphia and southeastern Pennsylvania, engage communities in planting trees and building local tree stewardship capacity in Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties. “Congratulations to Glenolden, Delaware County and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society on securing these vital grants,” said Boyd, D-Delaware. “Glenolden’s investment in urban and community forestry will strengthen local tree stewardship and bring lasting green spaces to Eastern Delaware County. Boyd announces $1M state grant for Clifton Heights Middle School

HARRISBURG, Nov. 1 – State Rep. Heather Boyd today announced the state is providing $1 million in funding for Clifton Heights Middle School. The funding, provided through the state’s Redevelopment Capital Assistance Program, will help the district construct its new 170,000 square-foot middle school for 800 students in grades 6-8 and reimagine an existing 14-acre community park as a dynamic platform of education and public engagement. Planned amenities include a dedicated parking lot, full-size competition football field, baseball field, little league field, softball field, playground and walking trail along the perimeter. The athletic components will be available to students, neighbors and local recreation and youth programs such as the Clifton Heights PAL (Police Activities League) and Clifton Heights Boys Club. “I’m happy to announce this state-funding award, which will help control costs for the school district and local taxpayers,” Boyd said. “Congratulations to Upper Darby School District on their acquisition of these funds. NEWLY LISTED PROGRAMS Department of Community and Economic Development: Mixed-Use Housing Development Pilot Program Who May Apply: Municipalities, Economic Development Organizations, Redevelopment Authorities, Municipal Authorities, Industrial Development Authorities, For-Profit organizations. Use: Mixed-use site development, conversion projects, rehabilitation projects, a combination of the three afore-mentioned projects. Funds: $10 million in PA Sites funding has been allocated for this program. There is no limit on the amount of grant funding that may be awarded to an applicant. Application Deadline: December 6, 2024 More information: DCED Website Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs: Recovery Support Services (RSS) Who May Apply: Applicant must have at least two years of experience as of July 1, 2024, providing RSS and demonstrate the capacity to provide RSS to individuals in recovery from opioid use disorder (OUD) and other concurrent substance use disorder (SUD). Boyd announces multiple state grant awards for critical projects

HARRISBURG, Oct. 22 – State Rep. Heather Boyd, D-Delaware, today announced the award of several high-profile state grants for local projects that will benefit residents of the 163 rd Legislative District. One grant originated from the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program, which was created to provide grants to public school districts and area career and technical schools for eligible facility improvement projects. The program is administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development under the direction of the Commonwealth Financing Authority. Upper Darby School District, Life Safety Systems Upgrade Project, $1 million The project will complete a districtwide upgrade of the fire alarm and security alarm systems, including wiring and downstream devices. The fire alarms, security, stand-by power, and fire protection systems range from non-existent to partially upgraded with many beyond their service life. Upgrades will bring all systems to code compliance and provide a robust system to manage safety and security issues. PSFIG funds will be used for the purchase and installation of equipment and engineering costs. The other grants originate from the Statewide Local Share Account, which comes from the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act. The act provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support projects in the public interest within Pennsylvania. Read more

Use: To develop competitive sites for businesses to relocate or expand within Pennsylvania. Funds: $400 million in funding is available. Application Deadline: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and approved on a quarterly basis More information: DCED Website Department of Transportation: Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF) Who May Apply: Municipalities, councils of government, businesses, economic development organizations, public transportation agencies, ports and rail freight entities. Use: To improve transportation assets that enhance communities, pedestrian safety, and transit revitalization. Funds: The MTF requires a 30% match of the amount award. Awards are available for projects with a minimum cost of $100,000 and no more than $3,000,000. Delco lawmakers announce facilities improvement grants for local schools

HARRISBURG, Sept. 17 – Upper Darby School District today was awarded state grant funding to help address environmental hazards in its school buildings, announced state Reps. Gina H. Curry and Heather Boyd, both D-Delaware. The district received $1,788,586 for environmental remediation needs. The money comes from the state’s Public ? School Environmental ??? Repairs Program , made possible by funding that Curry and Boyd voted for in the 2023-24 state budget. Grants under the program can be used by schools to fix environmental hazards in their school buildings, including removing lead in water sources and in paint, as well as asbestos and mold removal and remediation. A total of $75 million was available for the competitive grant program established in 2023, and 109 school districts and technical centers across the state received grants in this round. Projects require a match of 50% of total eligible project costs.
