Bill would allow victims of domestic violence to break leases

“Leaving an abusive relationship is often the most dangerous time for a victim of domestic violence,” state Rep. Lisa Borowski, D-168, said in a co-sponsorship memorandum for the bill. “Individuals leaving a violent relationship must consider where they will go, how to care for children, and if the abuser will further retaliate against them. The least of these worries should be housing, but rather the victim’s safety and the safety of their family.” Read more

Bill introduced to protect tenants facing violence

The bill was introduced by state Representative Lisa Boroski (D-Delaware) after being referred to the House Judiciary Committee back in June. The bill establishes a process by which victims of violence can be released from or terminate a lease early if they need to relocate as the result of an applicable crime, such as any crime that causes a physical or mental injury, sexual violence or stalking.
