Borowski: Nearly $6 million awarded for community improvements

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Oct. 22 – New funding of $5,965,087 from the Commonwealth Financing Authority will support multiple community infrastructure and revitalization projects across the 168th Legislative District, state Rep. Lisa Borowski announced today.

“State funding is vital to helping communities grow without putting extra strain on taxpayers. I’m proud to help bring in support for important projects like renovations to older public buildings, to keep people safe and keep public services running smoothly without interruption,” said Borowski. “Edgmont Township residents have long been calling for a conservation project to repurpose the Cisler tract for public use, and the funding to update Riddle Memorial Hospital’s emergency department is especially welcome considering the current strain on Delco’s health care providers.”

The grants were awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority via one of two programs: the Statewide Local Share Account, which distributes gaming revenues to support regional projects in the public interest; or the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program, which provides grants to public school districts and area career and technical schools for facility improvement projects and is administered by the state Department of Community & Economic Development.

The following grants were awarded in the 168th Legislative District:

Edgmont Township

$240,500 to create an additional open space for the community by remediating tree and invasive bamboo growth on the Cisler land tract. (LSA)

Middletown Township

$800,000 to renovate Riddle Memorial Hospital’s emergency department, located in a 60-year-old building, to lower wait times and increase the quality of patient care. (LSA)

$374,587 to repair the roof and prevent leaks at Paxon Hollow Middle School of Marple Newtown School District, and $1.5 million to replace the roof at Delaware County Intermediate Unit Career & Technical School’s Marple Education Center (as well as three additional buildings). (PSFIG)

Radnor Township

$500,000 to install a solar electrical generation system at the Radnor Township Municipal Building, a key component of its goal to reach 100% use of renewable energy by 2050. (LSA)

$2,550,000 to replace the 26-year-old HVAC system at Radnor High School with a new, reliable energy efficient system. (PSFIG)
