$2 million awarded for traffic improvements in Newtown Square’s Ellis Preserve

NEWTOWN SQUARE, July 10 – Rep. Lisa Borowski and Sen. Tim Kearney, both D-Delaware, today applauded $2 million in state funding for transportation infrastructure improvements at the Ellis Preserve development in Newtown Square.

The state departments of Community and Economic Development and Transportation announced the new funding in a joint press release on July 8. According to their release, the roadway improvements will improve traffic flows to better accommodate increased commercial activity around the Ellis Preserve development, in part by alleviating vehicular congestion and implementing new safety measures for pedestrians. The project will also include stormwater improvements, traffic signal improvements, ADA facility improvements, and the addition of an eastbound and westbound through-lane on West Chester Pike.

“The development at Ellis Preserve has brought new business opportunities and many new neighbors to the benefit of the community,” Borowski said. “I’m proud of Newtown Township's leadership and diligence in seeing the Ellis Preserve project through so residents can start reaping the benefits, like more opportunities for local job seekers and entrepreneurs, plus more things to do and places to visit in the neighborhood. This infrastructure investment will support better traffic management, pedestrian access, and stormwater management.”

“I’m thrilled to know this significant state investment will benefit the Ellis Preserve Project and address much-needed transportation infrastructure needs in Newtown Township,” Kearney said. “Investing in our transportation infrastructure is critical to ensuring our community remains vibrant and accessible for residents and businesses alike. I look forward to celebrating the project’s completion with Newtown Township officials and residents in the future.”

The funding was awarded from the Transportation Infrastructure Investment Funds (TIIF) managed by PennDOT.
