Abney announces $4 million in violence-prevention grants for district

HARRISBURG, April 15 — State Rep. Aerion Abney, D-Allegheny, announced today that 10 violence-prevention programs in the 19th Legislative District will benefit from nearly $4 million in state grants.

The grants were approved today by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

The local grant recipients are:

  • Amachi Pittsburgh: $500,000 to expand its structured, trauma-informed mentoring model.
  • Center for Employment Opportunities: $500,000 to relaunch two paid, transitional work crews for justice-impacted adults.
  • Gwen’s Girls: $499,995 to expand trauma-informed, gender-responsive out-of-school time for girls in high-need communities.
  • Kidcelerate: $142,500 to sustain and strengthen its Learning Hub at Northview Heights public housing community.
  • Light of Life Inc.: $499,947 to expand and formalize its violence-prevention outreach for adults experiencing unsheltered homelessness.
  • Pittsburgh Community Science Workshop: $33,500 to expand its after-school science and engineering programs for K-8 youths.
  • Project Destiny Inc.: $500,000 to expand its prevention-centered out-of-school programming,
  • SLB Radio Productions: $369,555 to expand its Summer Camp and Day Camp programming for teens,
  • YouthPlaces Inc.: $500,000 to sustain and strengthen its prevention-focused Hobbies to Opportunities model.
  • Carnegie Museum’s Andy Warhol Museum: $413,826 to expand its Out-Of-School Time programs serving at-risk youth.

“These are important programs that serve children, teens, and adults who need guidance at critical points in their lives,” Abney said. “I am grateful to the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency for helping these organizations continue or expand their services in our community.”
