Solomon presents citation to Central High’s Christina Lu

PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 14 – State Rep. Jared Solomon, D-Phila., presented a citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to Christina Lu, a student at Central High School, for her outstanding efforts to stop Asian hate.

Lu was traveling on SEPTA’s Broad Street Line in November when she noticed a group of young Asian American students being physically and verbally assaulted by four other students. Lu heroically intervened and was overcome by the perpetrators while her fellow students tried their hardest to protect her.

“Everyone has been calling me a hero, but I really am not. I’m just an ordinary girl from an ordinary family who saw people in need of help, and so I tried to help,” Lu said. “I’ll continue to stand up against bullying and violence and help people in need.”

Since then, Lu has used her voice to speak out against hatred and discrimination. She spoke at a Stop Asian Hate event and called for better public safety measures on SEPTA. The slogan “Stop Asian Hate” is being used all around the world to show solidarity with the Asian community.

“Christina showed bravery in a dangerous situation, and it only empowered her to do more to stop Asian hate.” Solomon said. “I am proud to award Christina for taking care of our community.”

The citation reads in part, “The House of Representatives joins with citizens across the state to recognize Christina Lu for her courage in the face of racially motivated bullying and violence on November 17, 2021, and for continuing to use her voice as an instrument of change.”
