Schlossberg optimistic about plan to get teachers vaccinated

HARRISBURG, March 3 – State Rep. Mike Schlossberg is optimistic about today’s announcement by Gov. Tom Wolf that Pennsylvania teachers will be added to the state’s vaccine distribution plan, but also is encouraging him to include all school personnel.

"Our teachers will be interacting with hundreds of students every day, providing a critical role of educating our kids and allowing their parents or guardians to get back to work. Everyone wants to get kids back to school as soon as it is safe to do so. This will make it safer, and it's the right decision,” said Schlossberg, D-Lehigh.

“I appreciate the emphasis the plan has on vaccinating anyone who has direct interaction with students - not just teachers. That seems to me to be the right way to prioritize the plan. As time passes and more supply becomes available, I would hope that this continues to expand to all school employees. This will keep these individuals safe, keep our students safe and help to limit community spread.

“I also want to make something else clear: The governor and secretary of Health have a limited supply of vaccine and are trying to do the best they can with what Pennsylvania is provided. There is no question that the vaccination distribution system must improve. However, there is also no question that the very limited supply is causing many of these headaches. Thankfully, our supply level continues to increase, and many of these issues will, hopefully, soon be behind us," he said.
