Probst to host free paper-shredding event Oct. 19

HARRISBURG, Oct. 7 – State Rep. Tarah Probst is inviting residents to her free paper shredding event from 9 a.m. to noon (or until the truck is full) Oct. 19 in the Delaware Township Municipal Building parking lot, 116 Wilson Hill Road, Dingmans Ferry.
The shred event provides an opportunity for residents to safely dispose of documents containing personal information, such as bank statements, tax forms and utility bills, thereby protecting them from potential identity theft.
“More than 10 million Americans have their personal information stolen every year, and that can lead to a financial nightmare for victims,” said Probst, D-Monroe/Pike. “Identity thieves use the information they’ve obtained illegally to open bank accounts or credit cards or even to apply for health care benefits and government assistance. One way people can protect themselves is by making that information harder to get.
“Shredding documents that contain sensitive information is one of the best ways to protect yourself from identity theft, so my office is happy to provide this free service to the people we serve. This is a free chance to declutter your home while ensuring your personal information doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.”
Attendees should pull up in their vehicles with items prepared for removal. Probst and her staff will unload documents from the car, and the materials will be immediately shredded on site. Bags and boxes will be returned to the car after they are emptied.
Probst and her office staff will be there to provide information on state-related programs and services.
