McNeill welcomes $140,000 in state grants

HARRISBURG, Jan. 28 – State Rep. Jeanne McNeill said $140,000 in grants were awarded today by the Commonwealth Financing Authority for projects in her legislative district.

“These grants focus on our outdoors and will increase safety at the pavilion in Coplay and will offer more for kids in Catasauqua,” said McNeill. “Not only that, but this will provide job opportunities to locals, which is always among the many positives of grant funding.”

Catasauqua Borough will receive $100,000 through the Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program and use it to construct a pocket playground at the intersection of South 14th Street and Poplar Street. The project will include site grading, paving ADA-compliant asphalt paths to connect playground features, and the installation of a spinning net climber, swing set, accessible arch swing and orbital spinner, and an engineered-wood fiber base.

Coplay Borough will use its $40,000 in Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program funding to purchase and install overhead doors for the Coplay Pavilion located on the Ironton Rail Trail.

McNeill said the current overhead doors are pull-chain opening doors over 50 years old and that they are horribly rusted and have become hazardous to the public during events, rendering the site unusable and unsafe.

GTRP funding is used in projects which involve development, rehabilitation and improvements to public parks, recreation areas, greenways, trails, and river conservation.
