HARRISBURG, July 11 – State Rep. Jeanne McNeill said that her legislation that would help students involved in school district residency disputes passed the state House and Senate and is headed to the governor for his signature.
House Bill 663 would provide that, in the event of a residency dispute between school districts, a school district would not be permitted to disenroll a student from school until the dispute has been fully resolved and it has been determined which school district should correctly enroll the child.
“It is our duty as public servants to do everything in our power to protect all Pennsylvanians,” said McNeill. “In particular, we must be certain to address the needs of children responsibly and conscientiously, especially children with special needs who are among our most vulnerable citizens. We cannot have our children removed from their schooling environment for a long period of time as they miss out on crucial lessons.”
The Senate passed the bill without amendment.
McNeill thanked her colleagues in the House and Senate for voting to make her legislation law.
